Young people on the Rame Peninsula have succeeded in getting more people to sign up to vote in the EU referendum. A registration evening with free pizzas attracted 11 new voters, as well as prompting three people to arrange their postal votes. And the event witnessed debate among residents who went along to discuss Britain’s membership of the EU. ‘Lots of people turned out and there was lots of lively debate between all sorts of people of all ages,’ said Rame Centre manager Simon Ryan. ‘About seven Brexiters attended, with the aim of persuading the young people to change their minds to vote leave. And there were a couple of Remain campaigners joining in the discussion.’ The members of YARP (Young Adults on the Rame Peninsula), aged between 17 and 26, say that as a result of Britain’s EU membership they have all experienced advantages in working conditions, as well as educational and travel opportunities. But their main motivation in hosting the event was to encourage more people to engage and use their vote on June 23, said Mr Ryan.
