Cornwall Council has agreed the scheme of 87 divisions it will submit as its response to the Local Government Boundary Commission’s consultation on the future pattern of electoral divisions across the county.

The Commission announced in September that from 2021, Cornwall Council should have 87 councillors, down from the current 123.

Since this announcement members of the Council’s Electoral Review Panel have been working on developing a series of proposals for the boundaries of the divisions.

Members at yesterday’s meeting of the full Council supported the recommendation for the boundaries of the 87 divisions put forward by the Council’s Electoral Review Panel.

Further work will now take place on finalising the names for 87 divisions.

The submission from the Council, together with responses from other organisations and individuals, will then be analysed by the LGBCE before it publishes its recommendations for the electoral divisions on May 8.

There will then be a further period of public consultation on these proposals before the LGBCE publishes its final recommendations on October 2.
