TWO South East Cornwall members will serve on Cornwall Council’s new cabinet - one of them a new appointment.

Liberal Democrat Edwina Hannaford, the member for Looe West, Lansallos and Lanteglos, will be responsible for the neighbourhoods portfolio, while Liskeard East independent Sally Hawken will deal with children and well-being.

Cllr Hannaford’s responsibilities include registrars; library services; events and licensing; community networks and localism; devolution to town and parish councils and community groups; gypsy and travellers. She served on the previous cabinet.

Cllr Hawken’s portfolio includes responsibility for children’s social care; children’s safeguarding; early intervention services for vulnerable children; early years, education; special educational needs; child poverty; youth offending; youth services; and public health.

Cornwall Council leader Adam Paynter said membership of the cabinet reflects the alliance between the Independent and Liberal Democrat groups to form the new administration, and comprises five Liberal Democrats and five Independents.

He said: ‘The majority of the Cabinet are new to the role and will bring new ideas to the table.

‘There is also a good spread geographically with councillors from across the duchy from Launceston and Liskeard in the east to St Just in the far west.’
