Thousands of pounds worth of drugs were seized from a car at a supermarket petrol station on Tuesday night.

Shoppers were left shocked as a sniffer dog and officers searched the car at the back end of the petrol station at Morrisons, Liskeard.

Five police units were involved in the pre-planned drugs raid.

Eye witness Kirsty Cooper, 19, said: 'We were filling the car up with petrol and at first I thought someone had just been pulled over for speeding.

'There were four or five police cars and one police dog.

'It is not what you expect to see in Morrisons in Liskeard.'

Another eye witness, Felicity Dukes, 25, said: 'When we arrived there were five police cars there and a dog was sniffing around the car with the bonnet open.

'Nobody was in the car.

'It was quite quiet but there were loads of police around.'

Sgt Williams from Liskeard police said: 'It was a pre-planned stop that we made because of intelligence we had.

'Five units were involved, not all from Liskeard.

'A substantial amount of heroin and other drugs were seized.

'It was primarily heroin.'

A Morrisons spokeswoman said: 'We can confirm that police attended our Liskeard petrol station on Tuesday evening.

'No customers or members of staff were involved in any way.'

A police investigation is continuing into the occupants of the car.
