POLICE in Liskeard are to set up patrols to clamp down on anti-social behaviour, following a weekend of heavy vandalism. On Saturday and Sunday, damage was caused to both cars and property, while a phonebox at Culverland Park had panes of glass smashed. Now with the school holidays getting underway, police are looking to curb any more possible problems. Two teenagers, one from Torpoint and one from Liskeard, were arrested during the early hours of Sunday morning in connection with damage to the phonebox and have been released on police bail. The pair are to return to Charles Cross police station on April 6. A phonebox at Addington was also vandalised. Other damage in Liskeard included: n At the Royal Mail office on The Parade, a red Vauxhall van suffered a smashed windscreen and dents on the roof, making a total of £1,000 worth of damage. n At Taylor's Motors on Barn Street, several cars had their windows smashed between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning, leaving a repair bill of more than £1,000. A white camper van was also pushed towards the edge of a slope - narrowly avoiding slipping down the bank. n A red Peugeot parked in Westborne Car Park was also targeted. All of its windows were smashed with stones between 4pm on Sunday and 7.15am on Monday morning. n Sunday afternoon saw two fires at the Sungirt public toilets, with the first fire starting in the baby changing area of the ladies' toilets. Members of Liskeard fire brigade were called at around 2.15pm, but the fire was out on arrival. The brigade were called again at 3.45pm to extinguish a small fire. The fires have gutted the ladies toilets causing damage in the region of £3,000. The loos are now closed to the public. n four break-ins also took place across the weekend, including one at Lux Park Leisure Centre. Five windows were smashed. Sgt Mick Howe from Liskeard police said: 'We're aware of the problems and we will be sending out patrols to clamp down on anti-social behaviour within Liskeard.'
