Paignton 3 Caradon 4

CARADON were not best impressed at having to change on the pitchside after the journey to Paignton, but they did not let it affect them as they went on to win.

The game was always going to be tight and high spirited, but Caradon started strongly and put plenty of early pressure on the Paignton defence. A two-goal lead at half-time came from energetic displays and finishes from Carina Batten and Fleur Worden, with a fine passing move down the right side resulting in the first goal, and this effort was quickly followed by a second.

The second half proved to be much more challenging, with Paignton levelling the score at 2-2.

But Caradon fought back to take the lead again with a signature goal from Clare Poad, an advantage soon cancelled out as the home team found another, somewhat disputed, equaliser. Caradon showed great determination and lifted their game, despite several cards being shown, and their efforts culminated in Poad accurately deflecting a free hit into the back of the net to put the result beyond doubt.

All team members put in a great performance – a fact reflected in the player of the match award.

Most team members were nominated, whilst Worden topped the poll for her tireless runs, well-taken goal and constant pressuring of the opposition.
