I live in Menheniot and last year my neighbour, who uses a mobility scooter to get around the village, had an accident. While making her way to the local shop travelling along the pavement that joins the highway, she was thrown to the ground by a damaged kerbing and path surface. Fortunately she was not seriously injured but it did shake her up, so she made her way home to recover from the ordeal. When I heard about the incident, I made every effort to contact and inform the owners of the offending pavement, to let them know of the situation and to get a repair done to avoid any similar accidents. Sadly after speaking to members of the parish council, county councillors and then directly to Caradon and Cornwall County Council, nothing has been done to solve the problem. Is this the price to pay for cutbacks to our services, or just what is to be expected from the people serving us in local authority? When the use of mobility scooters is becoming more and more widespread for all and in a village where a high number of the residents are elderly, will it take one of them being badly hurt and having just cause for a litigation case to get the job done? I for one hope not, I would not wish that on anyone. So please somebody, anybody, could we have the pavement repaired?
