AN environmental group in Saltash has been planning future improvements to the town. The first phase will be to landscape the shrubbery in Fore Street with plans also being made to move Brunel's bust further forward so that everyone could see it as they come into the town. Phase two will be to re-landscape the garden in North Road near the steps of the former school. Mayor Sue Hooper said they would be seeking funding for the various projects, recommending that they push ahead with phases one and two. Work will involve clearing the undergrowth and will be started in the next three months. Salt Mills is set to be upgraded, with councillor Fran Knight saying that they hope to improve the BMX track and the skateboard area as well as the walkway at the Saltash Mill park. The events arena is also to be improved and they hope to have a play area for toddlers and a teenage shelter. When all the work has been completed a celebration day will be held on the Salt Mill Park. A joint committee meeting between Caradon and Saltash Officers was also held to discuss the future of Longstone Park. The existing tennis courts are being converted into a basketball pitch and a five-a-side pitch. Councillor Baz Gregory said members of the public had complained about the vandalism at Longstone Park. Earlier this year vandals had set fire to the play equipment.
