Plans to honour one of South East Cornwall’s most famous figures will be discussed at a meeting next week.

Emily Estate UK is giving a presentation on plans to restore the historic house where campaigner Emily Hobhouse spent her early years.

Hobhouse went on to become a prominent campaigner for civil rights and brought the horrific conditions in British concentration camps in South African during the 1899-1902 Boer War to public attention.

She is revered to this day in South Africa.

Emily Hobhouse was born in the then vicarage at St Ive, where her father was the parish priest.

The house, now known as The Chantry, has been bought by Emily Estate UK and on Wednesday, September 20 (6.30pm), Sue Seager will give a presentation in St Ive Church about the plans for the restoration of the Chantry.
