THE names of councillors who will be responsible for planning decisions in the new Cornwall Council have been revealed.

Following the elections last month, which saw the Conservatives take control at County Hall, details have now been published for which committees councillors will sit on.

Of particular interest to the public will be those councillors who will make decisions on what developments will be given permission and which will be rejected.

All planning decisions have to be made according to the council’s own policy and in line with national planning policy. Many decisions are delegated to individual planning officers to make, but some, particularly any larger or contentious schemes, are discussed and voted upon by committee.

There are four committees at Cornwall Council which consider planning applications. The strategic planning committee has 11 councillors and considers large-scale planning applications and those which have a countywide significance. Among the members sitting on this committee will be Dorothy Kirk (Labour) who represents Calstock, and Phil Seeva (Conservative) who represents St Cleer and Menheniot.

In addition there are three area committees for East, Mid and West Cornwall.

Sitting on the East Sub-Area Planning Committee will be: Nick Craker (Con, Liskeard Central); Jennifer Cruse (Con, Lanivet, Blisland and Bodmin St Lawrence); Dominic Fairman (Lib Dem, St Teath and Tintagel); John Fitter (Ind, St Columb Minor and Colan); Barry Jordan (Con, Camelford and Boscastle); Sheila Lennox-Boyd (Con, Saltash Tamar); Andrew Long (MK, Callington and St Dominic); Adrian Parsons (Lib Dem, Altarnun and Stoke Climsland); Jane Pascoe (Con, Liskeard South and Dobwalls); Adam Paynter (Ind, Launceston North and North Petherwin); and John Tivnan (Con, Torpoint).

The first strategic planning committee meeting is set to be held on Thursday, June 17, and the first east sub-area planning committee date is Monday, June 21. Agendas have not as yet been published.
