MEMBERS of the public will be able to see the plans for up to 175 new houses in Callington during an exhibition this afternoon (March 28).

Baker Estates received outline planning permission in 2016 for the new homes, which are to be built on land adjoining the South Hill and Launceston Roads.

The developer says it now wants to share its detailed plans with local people.

On view will be details of the layout and the designs for the new development, more than a third of which will be affordable homes.

The drop-in consultation will take place at Callington Town Hall from 3.30pm to 7.30pm.

Callington Town Council had objected to the proposal for housing off the South Hill Road when it was first submitted. The developer listened to concerns over traffic and amended the plans so as to remove one of the vehicle access points to the new estate.

There were also worries over the capacity of Callington’s Health Centre. At the time of the application, Cornwall Councillor Andrew Long said that Cornish communities were ‘defenceless’ against government housing policies, and major developments that ‘build houses before infrastructure’.

Further information relating to the Callington development will be available at www.bakerestatesconsultation.co.uk after next week’s exhibition, says the developer.
