Liskeard Town Council is to recommend refusal of an application for 40 new houses on the western edge of the town. The application by Ocean Housing to build on fields off Old Road is a resubmission of a plan which was withdrawn in 2015. The withdrawal of the scheme was due to ‘unforseen matters relating to ecology and trees within the site’, said the developer, adding that these matters had been resolved by reducing the number of houses planned for the location from 44 to 40, and by retaining several mature trees. Another change is that the scheme, previously proposed to comprise 100 per cent affordable housing, will now include 16 open market homes as well as affordable homes. Members of the town council, which objected to the original scheme last summer, were concerned that access to the new development would be via a narrow road which is already considered to be congested. It was felt by councillors that the part of the town concerned was being overdeveloped, said town clerk Steve Vinson.
