Residents are being given the rare chance to help design a town centre site during an event known as a ‘Charrette’.
Liskeard’s Cattle Market saw its last sale of livestock in December 2017. Plans to regenerate the site, which is owned by Cornwall Council, have included suggestions such as a large retailer, a new community centre, workshop, office and small retail spaces, and a public open space for events.
Now, Government money has been awarded for JTP Architects to run two intensive days of workshops in Liskeard, to come up with a vision for how the new Cattle Market will look.
The event tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday at the Liskerrett will be open to all, and among those already on board are young people from Liskeard School.
The workshops will be creative and practical and will be a one-off opportunity for local people to determine exactly what they would like to see reflected in the look and feel of the Cattle Market.
Cornwall Councillor for Liskeard Sally Hawken is encouraging everyone who can do to be part of the event.
‘The aim is for as many people as possible to get involved in the workshop sessions which are taking place between 1.45 and 5.30 tomorrow (Friday) and between 11am and 4pm on Saturday,’ she said.
‘People can just drop in – there is no need to book a place and they can then stay for as long or as little time as they want. The important thing is that they take advantage of this opportunity to have their say on the future of this key site in the centre of the town. This is a fantastic chance to make a real difference to the decision on what happens.’

The architects are set to go away with people’s ideas from the weekend and create a vision for the Cattle Market, which they will report back with at the Elliot House Hotel on Tuesday (6.30pm).
