A REQUEST for match funding for a multi-million pound Liskeard project will come before Cornwall Council’s leaders tomorrow.
Phase 1 of the ambitious Cattle Market scheme could see £5million flow into the town for the creation of a workspace for digital and creative businesses.
The local authority is being asked to lend its financial support to an upcoming bid to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the first phase of the regeneration.
As a flexible space with scope for workshops, offices, and collaborative working, the Workshed is envisaged to bring around 100 jobs to Liskeard and to kick-start the development of the Cattle Market into a thriving ‘place to be’.
There is broad agreement in the town that more jobs are what is needed as the first driver of future prosperity in Liskeard.
But the Traders Association is concerned about some of the later phases of the plan as it stands so far, and it feels that its retailers’ views have not been incorporated.
The Association has produced a document where it responds to the Cattle Market scheme and makes some of its own suggestions.
Councillor Sally Hawken will advocate for Liskeard at tomorrow’s Cornwall Council Cabinet meeting and will be hoping to persuade leaders to back the investment in the town.
She’s said it’s great that there’s agreement about the need for workspace which could bring huge benefits to the town centre and its future prosperity.
