A PETROL station where no cars have filled at the pumps for a decade is now set to reopen.
Plans to alter and extend the former filling station kiosk at the Trewint Service Station at Altarnun have been approved by Cornwall Council.
The facility on the A30 has been closed for ten years, and the existing kiosk and shop building was converted into private accommodation.
But the licence to run the petrol station was never given up, says agent Ercle Designs, and now the applicant Mr Singh intends to get it open for customers once more, as he says there is a need for the services.
Meanwhile the Trewint forecourt has continued as a popular pit stop, as it is home of the double decker bus-cafe Charlie Browns, and classic car events have been held at the site.
The plan to extend and alter the existing shop includes retaining the existing rendered walls, and creating new openings and a new metal roof to the building.
Members of Altarnun Parish Council gave their backing to the proposal, and it was approved by the local plannning authority, on the condition that a traffic management plan for the construction period be submitted and approved, and that Cornwall Council approve the roofing materials and colour.
