A proposal to build more than 200 homes in Liskeard as well as a new business park needs further consideration before it can be approved, say Cornwall planners. The Wainhomes scheme came before the strategic planning committee having been recommended for approval by the planning officer.

Liskeard Town Council had also given its backing to the plans, after the developer agreed to expand the employment land allocated within the 14- hectare site.

But concerns were raised by councillors and a member of the public about air quality, with particular reference to the levels of congestion caused by traffic accessing Liskeard Hospital, Aldi, the Oak Tree Surgery and other businesses on Clemo Road.

The Wainhomes application will now be deferred so the mix of affordable homes can be discussed, and the plans can be considered by Cornwall Council’s design review panel.
