BUILDERS have laid the foundations for 18 new affordable homes.

The houses in Jubilee Close, Duloe, will be for shared ownership or affordable rent by local people.

The organisation behind the project, the Cornwall Community Land Trust (CCLT), says that community-led schemes are the best way of making sure that ‘affordable’ homes are genuinely affordable – and can contribute to safeguarding the future of the places in which they are built.

The CCLT received £400,000 from Cornwall Council to take the scheme forward, as part of an annual Government fund to support affordable housing projects led by local people.

Parish councillor Tony Barrett is on the working party to deliver the housing project.

He said: ‘Duloe is a vibrant village with a strong community, plenty of facilities and a good school. We want to ensure it stays that way.

‘A housing development of this size is small enough to be appropriate for our village but provides enough homes to keep our community viable for the future.’
