A plan to build 10 houses on the outskirts of Lostwithiel has been refused by Cornwall Council.
The scheme, put forward by landowners J Doney and J Gendall, would have seen the new housing built on a field adjacent to Grenville Road.
The development would ‘extend the settlement into the open countryside’ and would have a negative impact on the character of the area, said planning officer Jonathan Luker.
Any new housing in Lostwithiel, unless it is a rural exception site for an affordable housing-led scheme, should fall into the category of ‘infill’ or ‘rounding off’, he said. The town council had objected to the scheme.
