Plymouth Argyle play the first of three friendlies in five days this evening when they take on Romanian side Petrolul Ploie?ti in Austria.

The Pilgrims will then fly back to England tomorrow before further friendlies against League One side Yeovil Town at Huish Park on Tuesday and Southern League new boys Truro City at Treyew Road on Wednesday (both 7.45 pm).

The match against the Tigers will give Greens fans the opportunity

to see a familiar face – ex-

Argyle forward Sean McCarthy is now the manager of Truro, and will surely be looking to get one over on his former employers!

McCarthy finished his playing career with the Greens'

rivals Exeter City following

two spells with the Pilgrims (1988-90 and 1998-2001), and also played for Swansea City, Bradford City, Oldham Athletic and Bristol City. He coached Argyle's youth teams, as well as Devon junior club Manstow.

The 40-year-old will be assisted at Treyew Road by first-team coach and ex-Truro manager Dave Newton, and former Plymouth physiotherapist Ian Leigh.

Paul Sturrock's squad kicked off their mini-tour of Austria

with a 1-1 draw against German Budesliga Two side Greuther Furth.

This means that the Pilgrims are undefeated in the pre-season, but are still searching for their first victory, following a 1-1 tie against Weston-super-Mare and a 2-2

scoreline at Kidderminster.

Meanwhile, there is some good news for the Green Army.

Despite the departure of one Hungarian – Peter Halmosi to

Premiership newcomers Hull City – another has pledged his future

to Home Park for the next three years.

Influential defender Krisztian Timar, who suffered a horrific head injury against Wolves in May, was voted Player of the Season in the last campaign and also won his first international cap.

'I know Kris is popular with our supporters, and they will be delighted he has shown this commitment to the club,' admitted Sturrock.
