South West League Pat Sowden Trophy First Round
Plymouth Argyle Res 3 Launceston 0
Plymouth Argyle's
Reserve team eased into the second round of this competition following a comfortable victory over their fellow Division One South opponents.
The game was over as a contest by half-time, after goals from Rhianne Parsons, Louise Herndall and Kat Marment had put the Pilgrims in an unassailable position.
Playing some good short passing football in the early stages, it was no surprise that Argyle took the lead when, in then 15th minute, a good move between Herndall and Paula Pearce sent Parsons clear; her shot came back off a post into the path of Marment who made no mistake.
With Aoife Aherne and Parsons controlling the midfield, the Greens continued to press, and were rewarded with a second goal when an inswinging Pearce corner went to Marment, who was promptly flattened.
Parsons stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty kick into the corner of the net.
Five minutes later, Plymouth extended their lead when a diagonal ball from Hayley Stroud found Herndall inside the box. The winger controlled the ball well before providing a cool finish.
Launceston became more physical in the second period, but it was Argyle who reached the second round thanks to a professional performance that proved too good for their visitors.
