Pigeon Racing - Steady race from Honiton

For the second week running Saltash Pigeon Club, Honiton was the venue for the Saltash Pigeon Club.

The young birds were released on Sunday at 09:30 and, after an early morning mist, a steady race ensued. This week's winner was owned by Messrs Mugridge and Woolley covered the 52-mile journey in 1:10:14 recording an average velocity of 1294.346, just over 44 mph. Six members sent 144 birds to the race and when the clocks were opened, 75% were reported home.

Pensilva PFC held their second young bird race again from Honiton. The 14 members, 133 birds were liberated after some delay at 1.45 pm, on a very hot day. The birds made slow work of the journey, with less than 15% making their lofts by clock checking. Taking first place was B Ford of Liskeard on 1100.829 and a flying time of 1:35:35. Second place went to P MIllard of St Cleer with a velocity of 1031.551 and flying time of 1:41:12. Third place went to T and J Hawke of Commonmoor on 1011.071 giving a flying time of 1:43:56.

B Ford won first 5p and 10p pools and the single nom, K J and A Hicks won second 5p and 10p pools. Mr and Mrs J Thomas took the two-bird nom. Next week's race is from Yeovil.
