A floor canvas depicting Caradon Hill’s ‘boom and bust’ era of mining copper in the 1800s was the result of a day’s work at the Liskerrett Centre in Liskeard. The centre hosted the touring artists’ studio from the Picturing The Mines project which is part of the Tinth (10th) anniversary celebrations of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining World Heritage Site. Artist Bernard Irwin helped members of the local community to create their impression of the miners and mining on Bodmin Moor. Together with artist Jesse Leroy Smith, Bernard will be making an ‘atlas’ by putting together all the artworks created by local people from the Cornish mining world heritage sites of which Caradon Hill is one.
