Local people are getting behind a speed awareness campaign in Torpoint.

Mum Clare Shrimpton has joined Town Councillor John Tivnan to create a group, and hundreds of stickers are being distributed.

Almost 200 people are now following a new Facebook group, Torpoint Speed Awareness.

And Clare and John will be at events over the summer months to promote their simple message.

‘If you hit someone at 40mph there is a 90 per cent chance that they will die,’ they said. ‘We want people to respect the speed limit.’

The campaign focuses on Antony Road, which is one of the main routes into Torpoint.

Clare lives nearby and says she regularly sees motorists exceeding 30mph.

She hopes to set up a neighbourhood Speed Watch group in the near future, and has already received applications from interested local people.
