Passengers on board one of the Torpoint Ferries that has broken down mid-river have been on the stricken vessel for around two hours.
A problem with generators on the Lynher follows a similar incident yesterday when passengers were stuck onboard the Plym. Two ferries remain in service and a tug was deployed to slowly bring the Lynher Ferry and its 48 passengers in to Torpoint.A spokesperson said: "At 2.40pm this afternoon an electrical fault on the Lynher led to the ferry losing power in the middle of the river while crossing between Devonport and Torpoint. "Despite the best efforts of the on-board crew it was not possible to re-start the engine. At 3.30pm a police launch transported members of the maintenance team to the ferry to work on repairing the fault. "Unfortunately they were unable to immediately identify the fault and at 4pm a request was made for a tug to bring the ferry to the Torpoint side of the river so the 48 passengers (42 in vehicles and six foot passengers) could disembark. The ferry, accompanied by the tug, arrived at the landing point at 5pm. "Further investigations are now being carried out on the ferry so that repairs can be carried out as quickly as possible."They added: "We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused to passengers who were on the ferry and those who have been delayed by the reduction in service."
