Return rail fares of just £1 are being offered to passengers on the Looe Valley Line Ranger branch line in a bid to encourage more people to use the service. The Liskeard-to-Looe line is just one of the Cornish branch lines included in the Great Westcountry Branch Line Offer. It will also apply to the St Ives Bay Line Ranger from St Erth to St Ives, the Maritime Line Ranger from Truro to Falmouth, the Atlantic Coast Ranger from Par to Newquay and the Tamar Valley Line Ranger from Plymouth to Gunnislake. The special fare is available at any time over weekends this month and next for unlimited travel on the day of issue. The offer is being supported by the Department of Transport and the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership. Alan Wilson, managing director of Wessex Trains, said: 'The Westcountry's branch lines are hugely popular during the summer and this offer is designed to encourage local people to see that the branch lines are great value at any time of year. 'There is so much to see and do - shopping, visit friends, explore new places, or simply sit back and enjoy stunning scenery that can only be seen from the train.'
