People have two more days to give their views on a proposed rise in Cornwall Council’s car park charges.
But a town forum has accused the local authority of ‘dictating’ the changes.
In Liskeard, Town Forum members say they were dismayed to learn that their input to the discussion would come too late to have any meaningful impact.
Cornwall Council is proposing a rise of 1.5 percent in the fees charged in its car parks, rounded up to the nearest 10 pence.
But the Forum would like to see a new model for parking rates introduced, and they want the chance to work alongside other groups in the town, such as the Town Council, the Traders, and the Chamber of Commerce, to develop a system that works for Liskeard.
Chairman David Ambler said: ‘We would like to develop a pricing model that works for local residents and business. It would appear the common view is that a first hour free parking would benefit the high street, with perhaps a cheap second hour.’
The Forum says it was told, after a meeting with Transport portfolio holder for Cornwall Geoff Brown, that it was ‘too late to enter into detailed amendments for the coming season due to the need to re-consult and the tight time-frame to get the Parking Order approved.
