Children in Looe are being shown for the first time a new play park that should be ready to use by the summer holidays.
Work will start in around five weeks to build the brightly-coloured, disabled-friendly play park in the Millpool area, that was inspired by two Looe mums.
Natacha Tagholm and Rebecca Zirvou put forward their initial ideas for a park at the beginning of 2007 to councillor Edwina Hannaford.
After getting support from Looe Town Council they were pointed in the direction of Looe Development Trust who have helped them gain funding and actually delivered the project. Stuart Wright, from Looe Development Trust said: 'It is a fabulous project and it links in with the new amenity centre. It brings life to what at the moment is a transitional area, where you park your car and go into town.'
The park for children aged up to 12 years, should be ready to use by the summer holidays.
Natacha said: 'The scheme includes a shaded picnic area, which combined with the library, new amenity centre and boating lake provides a safe natural haven for families.'
The park will be the only one in West Looe and located on the site of the original park, which was closed by Caradon District Council on safety grounds.
Cllr Edwina Hannaford said: 'After the hard work and dedication of Natacha, Rebecca and Development Trust trustees, the project is finally coming to fruition. This play area will not only benefit local children, but is important to our visitors.'
The project, supported by a £161,000 funding package, should be complete by the end of June.
