AN ACT of Remembrance will be held in the parish of Morval this weekend, to enable those who could not visit the memorial in November to pay their respects in person.

“One of the casualties of the recent national lockdown was the public Acts of Remembrance on Remembrance Sunday,” said churchwarden Mike Willmott.

“Remembrance Sunday is usually held on the closest Sunday to Armistice Day. Morval has decided to slightly amend this to the “closest available Sunday to Armistice Day” which will be this Sunday December 6.

“This will give Morval parishioners (plus anyone else who wishes to attend) the opportunity to publicly acknowledge the debt to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

The Act of Remembrance will be at Morval War Memorial, and attendees will need to observe social distancing. It will start at 10:50am, so that the two-minute silence will naturally fall at 11 o’clock, with a bugler playing the Last Post and Reveille.

This will be followed by the Service of Remembrance in St Wenna’s Church, although COVID-19 restrictions mean that numbers permitted to attend must be limited.
