AN OSCAR winning actress, formerly from Saltash, will be meeting her fans at Cornwall’s first ever deaf festival.

Maisie Sly, 6, who is deaf, starred in a British short film ‘The Silent Child’ which won an Academy Award earlier this year. It tells the story of a profoundly deaf girl who lived her life in silence until her social worker taught her how to use British Sign Language.
