A COMMUNITY effort that’s taken years to achieve will be officially opened on Saturday (July 1).
After four years of campaigning for an allotment site in Looe, a decision was reached for a field behind St Martin’s Church Hall.
The site was marked out in September 2016 and in October gardeners were able to take on their own plots.
Today some 41 members have taken on a plot and worked hard to turn what was just a grassy field into a productive site for their produce.
They were hampered at first by rabbits in abundance, but after grants from West Looe Town Trust and the National Lottery, the site is now entirely fenced to keep the rabbits out.
On Saturday, the Looe Allotment Association is holding their official opening by the Mayor and Mayoress of Looe, Councillor Armand and Mrs Toms.
Other town councillors who have been instrumental in organising the site will be there along with representatives of the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners.
The Mayor will be cutting a ribbon before touring the allotments.
