Bodmin has become the ninth Cornish town to join a pioneering closed-circuit TV scheme.

CCTV is now being monitored by Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety (CFRCS) Service at their new Critical Control Centre in Tolvaddon.

CFRCS have been monitoring CCTV for eight towns and parishes since July 2016.

The cameras are active 24 hours a day seven days a week, providing high quality digital images which can be used to support police prosecutions.

A link is also being provided to the Emergency Management Centre at County Hall in Truro so the images can be accessed in emergency situations such as flooding and major fires.

The Critical Control Centre has direct links to the police and ambulance services, which means immediate help can be called for acts of crime or for anyone they see who have been taken ill or injured in an emergency.

Funded by the town councils, the aim of this project, believed to be the first of its kind in the country, is to enable key services to deliver against such priorities as a reduction in crime and ensuring further contributions to community safety.

Saltash Town Council has recently set up a working group to explore bringing CCTV to the town, and this is one of the options the group has said it will look at.
