A nine year old boy was airlifted to hospital yesterday afternoon (Sunday) after falling from the Banjo Pier in Looe.

The tide was out at the time and the youngster fell onto the rocks on the river side of the pier.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene included the coastguard, RNLI, police, paramedics and First Responders.

Volunteer crew who were at the Lifeboat Station preparing for an event gave the initial first aid to the injured child.

A spokesperson for Looe RNLI said: ‘Our volunteer crew were tasked with casualty care until First Responders and paramedics arrived on scene.

‘Other crew members assisted the Looe Coastguard Team with Devon and Cornwall Police to prepare safe landing areas on the beach and river bed for the air ambulance to land.’
