When young farmer Dan Eames, 26, started to feel unwell his girlfriend Nicola Woodley, from Lostwithiel, thought it must be a touch of the ‘man flu’.

But Dan, from Tregony, was diagnosed with cancer in June 2015 and Nicola, 23, has been there helping him with daily steroid injections and helping him through his chemo treatment and the emotions that go with a cancer diagnosis.

Nicola, who met Dan through the Young Farmers Club, explained: ’Dan was diagnosed with Non- Hodgkin B lymphoma which was an awful time in both of our lives. It made you realise that cancer gets even the strongest and healthiest of people.’

Now the marine biology student is marking Dan’s remission from cancer by taking part in the Virgin London Marathon.

Nicola, who is studying at Plymouth University, said: ’I am running the London Marathon for Dan, and aim to raise as much money and awareness as possible. I never ever want to go through anything like that again, and the fewer people to go through it, the better.’

This year’s Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday, April 23 is raising funds to help Cancer Research UK.

Nicola is encouraging anyone who already has a place in this year’s event to unite with her in the fight against the disease by joining the charity’s running team.
