Meeting someone of your own age might not necessarily be considered newsworthy – except perhaps when you are 103 years old. The two incredible residents of South East Cornwall who met over lunch in St Dominick are Marjorie Boundy and Herbert Buckle. While Marjorie was actually celebrating her 103rd birthday at the time, she is a relative youngster to Herbert, who will turn 104 next month, said Marjorie’s son-in-law Terry Bolt. ‘Marjorie was having a celebration lunch with her two sons and their wives at the Who’d Have Thought It Inn,’ said Terry. ‘By coincidence I was also at the pub, overseeing a gentleman’s luncheon club affectionately known as ‘Blokes that Brunch. This is part of my volunteering role for Living Well, under the auspices of Age UK Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. One of our regular diners, Herbert, will be 104 on May 16, so I thought it would be appropriate for them to meet.’ While Marjorie was born and still lives in Callington, Herbert is from St Dominick.
