This academic year has seen the introduction of our new ‘Team Liskeard’ badge which highlights our team approach and belief that every student matters and has a role to play. This team spirit was recognised at a national level in the Parliamentary Review in September (the first school ever in Cornwall to be given this honour).

Last term we also introduced ‘Do Now’ tasks to enable all students to get on with their learning straight away at the start of every lesson and ‘arrow’ work, designed to encourage students to stretch themselves and aspire to do even better. As a consequence, the progress students are making in every year group is better than ever.

Our Football Academy reached the 6th round of the national cup last term and our rowers have become county champions. We were recently awarded ‘Champion School’ status by the National Citizen Service for the second time and Luke Moynan, one of our 6th form students is standing as a candidate for the national Youth Parliament.

Eleanor Frew was short-listed for an award at the prestigious British Education Awards in London, for her remarkable A Level success last year, enabling her to get into Oxford University.

The local community and local businesses have kindly donated funding to enable our technology department to purchase a 3D printer and the kit needed to take part in the Greenpower Go-Kart Challenge. We’ve also had a defibrillator donated to the school by Heartswell and we have started to think about how we can incorporate First Aid into the curriculum, so that our students have the skills to save lives.

We’ve become an Associate School for the Royal Shakespeare Company and are proud to have a World Karate Champion as a member of our staff.

The school production of Bugsy Malone in December was one of the best shows the school has ever performed and received rave reviews from parents.

We were privileged to be the Cornish school chosen to host the very thought-provoking Anne Frank exhibition last week and we were delighted to be visited by Lib Dem leader Tim Farron who very bravely took on the might of our 6th form students in a great question and answer session.

The popularity of the school continues to grow with provisional numbers for next year looking strong again.

The sixth form has been re-branded and there are many Year 11s already asking if they can have a place for next September!
