A new vicar for Liskeard is due to be licensed during a special service today (May 8).

The Reverend Steve Morgan will be priest in charge for the benefice of Liskeard and St Keyne, replacing the Rev Canon Tony Ingleby, who retired in August of last year.

Before coming to Liskeard, Mr Morgan was a Royal Navy chaplain and was based at HMS Drake in Plymouth.

There may be some fanfare in the town when the new priest takes up his role: he is a keen tenor horn player and a member of a very musical family.

His wife Jemma plays clarinet, and their four sons play trumpet, trombone, flugelhorn and drums.

‘We are really excited about being in Liskeard and we are really encouraged by the warmth of welcome we have already received,’ said Mr Morgan.

‘Getting to know the local communities and joining in with everyone at St Martin’s, Dobwalls United Church and St Keyne will be my priority. I am also looking forward to exploring Liskeard and the surrounding villages.’

Mr Morgan will be licensed by the Bishop of St Germans, the Rt Rev Chris Goldsmith, during a service at St Martin’s Church in Liskeard at 7.30pm this evening.

All are invited to go along to welcome Liskeard’s new parish priest and his family to the town; the service will be followed by a reception in the St Martin’s Church Centre.
