PEOPLE who made lanterns for the Liskeard Lights Up parade which was cancelled due to bad weather, will have a chance to Trip The Light Fantastic tomorrow (Saturday) at a re-arranged event.

Billed as Liskeard Lights Up – Take Two, there will be a parade of lanterns around the grounds of the Liskerrett Centre in Varley Lane, accompanied by Samba Kernow and Scoots Lyskerrett.

There will also be help add to the festive occasion.

All those who made lanterns for the original event are invited to take them along and join in.

Participants are asked to be at the Liskerrett Centre no later than 4.45pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Spectators are asked to be in the centre’s grounds by 5pm.

Chairman of the Lights Up committee John Lennon said: ‘There was huge disappointment we cancelled the parade but the weather was against us with the wind being the main problem. Unfortunately we are not able to apply for another road closure and, having to ensure everyone’s safety, we have come up with the alternative plan.

‘We wish to give everyone who made lanterns the chance to display the fruits of their labour and it should be an enjoyable community event for everyone. The lanterns, as in past years, are outstanding.’

The parade is still weather dependant and if the conditions are unfavourable a final decision will be made at 4pm.

The Liskerrett Centre will be manned to take calls on 01579 340307.

The Cornish Times will be at the event taking pictures of the lanterns to be published in our edition of December 18.
