LISKEARD police station has a new neighbourhood team leader. Sergeant Jo Williams was appointed to her new post at the end of last month, having moved from Plymouth. She worked on community-led initiatives, and is looking forward to tackling anti-social behaviour and crime within the town. 'I have been involved as a police constable and sergeant in community roles in Devonport,' she said. 'I learned there that community-led initiatives are where results can happen, not just for crime and disorder, but also for the quality of life for local people. 'The whole point of a neighbourhood team is to look at issues and concerns relating to anti-social behaviour, as well as crime trends and patterns.' Sergeant Williams plans to 'use that information to direct the work of neighbourhood beat managers and PCSOs in Liskeard.' Sergeant Williams also recognised residents' concerns surrounding vandalism and alcohol- related crime, but stated that Liskeard was still a very safe place to live. 'Liskeard is like a lot of market towns,' she said. 'It has its fair share of alcohol-related problems and anti-social behaviour, but actually has very low levels of crime and is a very pleasant place to live. 'I have been out visiting more rural areas of my patch, from Bodmin Moor in the north, to St Keyne in the South, Warleggan in the west and St Ive and Pensilva in the east. It is a beautiful rural area and a nice change from working in the middle of Plymouth.' The Liskeard neighbourhood team can be contacted for community issues on 01579 3425454.
