NEW habitats for bats will be provided close to Bodmin Moor thanks to a partnership between the Cornwall Bat Group and the South West Lakes Trust (SWLT) at Siblyback.

Members of the public will have the chance to play a part in the good work during a bat box building day on Sunday, April 15.

The event is aimed at all ages and no previous knowledge is required, as members of the Bat Group and the trust’s countryside wardens will be on hand to offer tips and advice.

Starting at 10am with a box-building session, the group will head out around the lakeside path after lunch to install the boxes.

Each box will be numbered, so participants will know the location of their own bat box.

The event will be a forerunner to a Summer Bat Walk at Siblyback on Friday, August 10, when Cornwall Bat Group and the SWLT will be out and about at Siblyback with bat detectors to identify species that use the site.

The Family Bat Box building day is free to attend but booking is essential.
