A new event in Liskeard, which it is hoped will become a permanent fixture in the town's calendar, will take place on Saturday, August 16. The Ploughman's Fare, organised by local people, will be a celebration of local food and will feature live entertainment. Organised to coincide with the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary – one of the two fair days granted to the town by Richard, Earl of Cornwall, in medieval days, the other being St Matthew's Fair – the event begins at 10am on the Parade. Traders and producers from around the district will be setting up market stalls and offering local fare. There will be honey from the Tamar Valley and some bees will also be making an appearance to help the day go with a buzz. Liskeard Traders have organised fun for children in Fore Street during the morning to include a balloon modelling man and games. From noon there will be free admission to Westbourne Gardens for six hours of live music on two stages, plus other attractions. Among the bands playing will be Haunt The Woods.
