Latest updates on the number of COVID-19 cases in the South West indicate that while there are some new cluster areas in Cornwall, the Duchy still has relatively few cases compared to Devon – and one area in South East Cornwall has now gone from the South East Cornwall clusters map.
A ‘cluster’ is defined three or more cases of COVID-19 per 750,000 residents in a particular area.
The South East Cornwall cluster area that has now disappeared from the map, meaning cases of the virus have decreased to less than three, is the Rame Peninsula district of Kingsand, Antony and Maryfield.
Of the other previously reported East Cornwall cluster areas, St Germans and St Million has risen by two cases to five, while the other cluster areas of Saltash Town and Pillmere (five cases), Altarnun and Stoke Climsland (three cases), Lostwithiel and Penwithick (three cases), and Launceston (four cases) show no change from previous reports.
Meanwhile the Isles of Scilly now have their first cluster of three cases – though on which of the islands is not specified.
However, the number of new cases of the virus per 100,000 people across Cornwall fell from 37.3 in the seven days to September 28 to 26.4 in the seven days to October 5. This contrasts with the huge rise in cases in recent days in Exeter, where the equivalent numbers were 73.8 rising to 390.4.
