Scouts planning a trip to the Himalayas where they’ll help communities hit by the Nepal earthquake spent a day at Tesco – and came away with £775.

Twenty-six East Cornwall Explorer Scouts packed bags for customers at the store in Callington.

The event was part of the Scouts’ campaign to raise enough money for a three-week trip to the mountainous area.

Organiser Neil Carvell said it was ‘another good day for fund-raising, with plenty of generous customers, many of whom wanted to chat about what we’re doing’.

During the expedition to Nepal, the scouts will work in a remote village, repairing the school which suffered damage in the 2015 earthquake and running some teaching sessions for the pupils.

The Scouts come from across the East Cornwall Scout District including Saltash, Liskeard, Callington, Menheniot, St Neot, Linkinhorne, Landrake and Stoke Climsland.
