A GUIDE dog has paid a visit to the Royal Navy trainees who bought her. Tiffy has been bred by the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association with money raised by trainee sailors from Raleigh's Fisgard Division. Like the Service new recruits, Tiffy, who has been named after the Navy's artificer apprentices, must now undergo her initial training. Her initial 'puppy walking' and advanced training course will take up to 18 months. 'The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association has been Fisgard Division's adopted charity for more than 50 years and the trainees regularly raise money for the charity through sponsored events,' said WO Rab Butler, Raleigh's recruit school warrant officer. 'Over the last two years alone we have donated £7,000 to this worthwhile cause. It's great for the trainees to meet Tiffy and see the end result of their fundraising efforts. 'We shall be following Tiffy's progress throughout her career and look forward to welcoming her back as she climbs the promotion ladder.' Pam Gratton, area fundraiser for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, said: 'We are extremely grateful to Fisgard Division for their support and Tiffy is just one of the many puppies and guide dog partnerships that the division has supported with their wonderful fundraising efforts. 'The charity relies entirely on public generosity to fund its guide dog service and the efforts of the artificer apprentices and other recruits over the years make a real difference to the thousands of blind and partially sighted people that rely on the guide dog service.'
