A CALLINGTON musician is to take charge of a countywide choral music group. Ken Pethick, a well-known musician in the Methodist church, is to take control of Celtic Chorale – soon to be known as Celtic Voices. The group meets at Lanivet but takes members from across the county. Along with a new name the group, which has been running for 24 years, will also have a new uniform at the beginning of next year. The current organist and choirmaster in Callington and a former choirmaster in Plymouth, Ken also conducted the Tamar Valley Orpheus Choir for seven years during the late 1970s. He studied under the late Royland Jordan, under whom he gained his Licentiate of Trinity College, London, in organ teaching. Ken said he was looking forward to the challenge of leading the choir. 'The choir's repertoire covers quite a wide spectrum of music styles, ranging from songs from the musicals and American gospel songs, to works of the great masters and contemporary composers,' he said.
