POLPERRO Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary this year with what promises to be a spectacular nine days of drama, dance, music and art and plenty of good fun thrown in for measure. This year's theme surrounds famous people who have either lived in or visited Polperro over the years, ranging from famous actress Rita Tushingham who starred the film A Taste of Honey, to madcap cartoonist and inventor Rowland Emmet, who created the machines featured in the classic children's film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Pupils in costume from Polperro, Duloe and Lanreath primary schools will join the procession through the village on the festival's opening day on June 18. Also on opening day and back by popular demand will be The Fabulous Fezheads from Kent, who describe themselves as 'England's Premier Sand Dance Vaudevillian Illusionists.' On the first Sunday, Cornwall's award-winning Holman Climax Male Voice Choir will perform in the Methodist church as guests of the Porthypyra Singers and, on the second Saturday of the festival, the popular Gig on the Green will feature Charlie Bullitt, fronted by former S Club 7 member Paul Cattermole. In support will be thrash-folk duo, The Singing Lions and the South West's premier 1970s dance band, the Liskeard-based Full Tilt Boogie. Throughout the festival the streets will see a variety of colourful acts and the port's hostelries will be hosts to all kinds of music.
