performances by local people made Torpoint’s carnival a day to remember.
The event at Cambridge Field began with music from Torpoint Town Band. Up next were young dancers from the Coppola School of Dance and Drama and a mini field gun display by the Carbeile Junior School team.
As the fancy dress entries began to assemble for judging, 14-year-old Megan Devey sang three solo pieces.
The judging panel, made up of Captain Trevor Gulley and his wife Priscilla, Torpoint and Rame Lions Club president Steve Morris and his wife Lion Julie, and Millbrook town crier Clive O’Shaughnessy and his wife Julie, had some tough decisions to make. Among the entries were a large group of Oompa-Loompas, fairy princesses, film characters and people in costumes inspired by the 1940s.
A parade led by the Royal Marine Cadet Band set off around the town, returning to Cambridge Field for the presentation of prizes, with Councillor John Crago taking the role of compere.
Torpoint mayor Mike Pearn, who leads the Torpoint Town Partnership which organises the popular carnival each year, said: ‘I would like to thank all those who took part, attended and helped to make the town carnival such a wonderful success.’
