AFTER a consultation in which 2,600 people took part, Cornwall Council has voted to retain just one of its mobile library vans. This will serve a reduced number of stops around the county. The cuts will be implemented by April 2015. Meanwhile, the council is developing more micro-libraries in communities and expanding the Home Library Service. Faced with a 50 per cent reduction in the mobile library service budget from £310,000 to £155,000, the council carried out the biggest public consultation it has ever undertaken. The council says it has listened to the views of residents on the importance of a mobile library service in Cornwall. The Cornish Times asked the council how many stops the library van is likely to be making in South East Cornwall. A spokesperson said: 'No decision has yet been made. 'Further discussions will now take place with local Cornwall councillors and communities to identify which stops best meet the needs of specific local areas.'
