Liskeard/Looe U-8s romped home to an outstanding victory over Wadebridge U-8s on Sunday. Their first match of the millennium was characterised by excellent passing and strong tackling, with all the players working better than ever before as a team.
Liskeard first team made an early break against Wadebridge with two quick tries in succession and, despite some fast running by Wadebridge, were leading 6 - 0 by the end of the first half During the second half Wadebridge fought back resolutely against the stronger side leaving the score as 11 - 0 at the final whistle. Player of the match for the first team was Lucy Demaine who scored three tries and supported many others.
Liskeard's second team had a harder task against the Wadebridge second team who were deterrnined to get some points on the board before half-time This was done by an excellent, hard-fought try five minutes into the first half. Liskeard countered this with some inspirational play and by full time the score was 8 - 2 to Liskeard.
Man of the match went to Thomas Davey for his excellent defence and try scoring. Special thanks goes to Andy Demaine who maintained the perspective of the game whilst refereeing the matches at no notice.
Liskeard/Looe U-10s were beaten 50-30 by visiting Wadebridge. Within the first 30 seconds Liskeard's Adam Whittington had run from the halfway line to score the first of his two tries.
Unfortunately Liskeard could not build on this good start and Wadebridge scored five tries in the first half. Liam Moran who had an excellent game with good running and supporting skills scored the first of his four tries shortly before half time.
In the second half Liskeard got off to a good start with Joshua Bryant, Chris Bowden and Jan Spierings winning some good scrum. Jake Francis, John Burns and Rosy Reid showed some good support skills.
Stuart Gundry played his best game yet and was unlucky not to score. Wadebridge however also managed to score five more tries to Liskeard's four in this half. Man of the match went to Adam Whittington for his excellent tries and tackling.
