A TOTAL of 12 members of the public attended the annual Callington parish meeting on Friday. The event is a chance for any local residents or traders to speak on the future of the town or any problems they may have. Chaired by portreeve Denise Winfindale, eight members of the town council were present along with two members of Callington police. Gerald Pengelly raised the question of building in Kelly Bray. 'When is it going to stop?' he asked. 'The second oldest building in the village has just been knocked down for five houses. 'Is it not time the village was given a break?' Cllr Jeremy Gist sympathised with Mr Pengelly and said the whole council had concerns over the building schemes. He explained that the council has opposed some applications that they didn't think were right for the village. He added that planning rules were constantly being changed by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. Mike Treddinick asked about extra dog mess bins on Kit Hill as he had spotted increasing amounts around the area. Cllr Gist said that as the hill had become more accessible more people were using it with their dogs. The majority of the hill is under control of North Cornwall District Council with the other part under Cornwall County Council control. Cllr Gist said dog wardens from North Cornwall have been visiting the area recently but were unable to every day because of the area they have to cover. He added that fixed penalty fines were being used on anyone caught.
