News in last week’s Cornish Times in print and online of an international award for a film made in South East Cornwall sparked a huge reaction.
The Last Fisherman was made in Kingsand and Cawsand, featuring the dying craft of fisherman Malcolm ‘Bumps’ Baker. It was given the Coastal Culture Award at San Francisco’s prestigious International Ocean Film Festival.
Many of the thousands of people who viewed the article in the paper, on our website at www.cornish-times.co.uk or on our Facebook page wanted to know when they could see it - or buy it on DVD.
The film’s director James Stier said this week: ‘We are all so amazed it’s been so well received.
He said the production team was grateful for ‘kind words and support for our film’.
‘A DVD is on the way, however the film is still travelling around the world at festivals. Innsbruck, Austria is the next stop.
‘Once the festival circuit is complete then a DVD and digital download will be available, most likely by the end of the year.
‘We plan on a summer screening in Cornwall and are waiting to hear back from the Plymouth Film Festival. So local screenings are coming soon.’
Malcolm’s son Ted commented on Facebook: ‘Loved being part of this and very proud of father.’
Others described Bumps as ‘a legend’.
